Target Social Media Monitoring

Target currently has over 20 million likes on Facebook and 300,000 followers on Twitter. A company that large must have an update social media presence. Many fans visit their Facebook page every day to air grievances, ask questions, and tell about the good experiences they have had.

Fans of Target’s Facebook page voice a variety of opinions. Of the 50 post looked at, over half were positive comments. Most people were stopping by to write that they loved Target or had a great experience there. Others wrote about their bad service they had experienced or the poor service they had received on the company’s website while ordering.  Another popular topic was the lack of items. Many people found that items advertised were not available anymore or on backorder. Also a great number of post were about issues customers had when trying to return an item. The rest of the comments were either people complaining about Target’s holiday commercials or their running advertisements during NickMom. Many mothers are unhappy about the new program running on NickJunior. They want to boycott Target until they stop supporting the programing.

Target’s Twitter mentions had almost the opposite post. Of the 15 most recent tweets, most were about going to Target. Others were talking, positively, about an item purchased at Target. Fans of Twitter post more positive messages about Target and their products.

Target must be more proactive on their Facebook page. Many posts went unanswered by the company. However, other people would comment. It makes the page look like it is run by fans, not by the company. Many people complained that the responses were too generic and did not offer enough assistance. Though Target’s Twitter page appears to be excellently run, there are a few things the company could do to improve. . More retweets from and interaction with followers could help the company expand its following.
